What does your day-to-day look like?

Working with customers, suppliers and modern information technology characterise the job description of an industrial business management specialist. One focus is on sales and materials management with the areas of purchasing, logistics and sales. Other areas include accounting and human resources. Different tasks and challenges await me each day. My three-year apprenticeship takes place in the company and at the vocational school. In the company, I am taught various work processes in different commercial departments, and in the vocational school I learn the necessary theoretical knowledge. Vocational school classes take place 1-2 days a week or as block classes.

Further training to become an industrial business administrator, business assistant, industrial or specialist business administrator is possible after the apprenticeship. Alternatively, a business studies degree is another option for my professional career.

What educational and personal requirements do applicants need to satisfy for this training position?Candidates interested in an apprenticeship in this field should be able to work in a team and show a keen interest in business issues. A certain level of communication skills and open interaction with people are very important in this profession, as industrial business management specialists are the interface between customers, suppliers and the company. Good grades in English are just as important as in maths and German. Basic knowledge of Word and Excel makes it easier to get started.

What tips do you have for students who are interested in this profession?

The student internship provides a good insight into the workflows and will help you decide. Such an internship gives you good insight into your areas of interest and into what your day-to-day work will look like.
